Prayer 56: For a Hungry Heart

2 Corinthians, Exodus, Hebrews, Hope in Christ Alone

Gracious Father, Your precious word beautifully describes the experience of our forefather Moses as he passionately requests the blessing of experiencing your full glory. You placed this hunger and thirst in Moses and then miraculously met Moses’ request in a limited way for his protection and within your perfect timing!

Oh Father, bless us with that same passion. Through the miraculous work of Christ and the power of the cross, we are privileged with an incredible promised blessing that was only a dream for Moses. Now, by the blood of Christ, through a new and living way, we have a Great High Priest inviting us to confidently enter the Most Holy Place and intimately experience your glory; in that glory, we experience your holiness, goodness, power, and mercy.

Father, help us understand what this fully means. Give us craving hearts to experience your presence. Make your light shine in our hearts and give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory that is displayed in the face of Christ. No doubt, we marvel at what we have already experienced, and one day we will spend eternity fully absorbing your glory. But today, considering this promise, do not let us underestimate this invitation. Like Moses, we ask that you might show us your full glory. May Christ and his glory saturate our very being.

May we draw near to God wholeheartedly and with the full assurance that faith brings. How glorious that we are completely forgiven and set free to encounter you, our great God, with hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. We are completely set free to intimately know Christ and the overflow of his glory. May we hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

May we consider how to spur one another on toward utter dependence in Christ; may that yield hope and confidence that bolsters supernatural love and good deeds toward others. And Father, do not allow us to be swayed by culture or convenience which undermines the importance of Christ-centered fellowship. Many are doing this very thing. Rather, draw us together even more as we see the Day approaching,

In Christ.

Blessings!

Exodus 33
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

II Corinthians 4
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

John 1

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 10
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

God delights when we are in this position of absolute dependence… when our trust and faith are solely on Him. (Pg. 12- Mistaken Identity)
