Prayer 76: Christ, Holding All Things Together

Colossians, Hope in Christ Alone

Lord Jesus, we are struck today by your glory. You, Jesus, who were before all things, stand outside of your own creation, divine and holy. We confess we find ourselves severely lacking understanding, words, and emotions that enable us to fully express the praise and adoration your incomparable glory deserves. Yet, that is our attempt. We raise our voices, magnifying your blessed name. We join the chorus of the Holy Spirit who perfectly and completely raises your name high above all, magnifying your holy name. We will never be done praising you. It is you, Lord Jesus, who hold all things together. It is spectacular to know that You, the eternal sovereign King who sustains the entire universe, called us out as adored children and watch so carefully over us.

Oh Father, You have marvelously orchestrated a supernatural assembly of saints joined together under Christ’s headship to amplify the praise of his name as he works to carry out his purpose for your glory. We stand in humble awe that we are privileged to serve your beautiful bride, the church. You, Lord Jesus, are truly the supreme one. We confess, as your church, that we along with others are apt to hijack its very beauty through prideful arrogance and selfish ambition. Convict our hearts and drive your body to utter dependence upon you Lord Jesus. Express in and through us your identity, vitality, and cohesion yielding a supernatural overflow and raising your name high above all for your glory!

Father, we pray that we might be divinely empowered messengers of hope found in Christ to all people we influence. For indeed, all hope is found in the one true Savior, Jesus Christ, through the sacrificial blood shed on the cross. He indeed is the preeminent, supreme, and powerful redeemer.

In Christ,

Blessings!

Colossians 1:17-19
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
