Prayer 63: Beatitudes: Blessed are Those That Mourn

Character, Ephesians, Matthew

Gracious Father, we deeply desire for Christ to permeate every aspect of our lives and exude the supernatural character of your blessed kingdom. As kingdom participants, may we maintain a spirit of humble mourning over our ever-increasing understanding of our absolute depravity and hopeless condition outside of Christ’s redemptive work in our lives. The greater our awareness of our helpless condition, the greater our appreciation is for Christ’s life-giving divine rescue driven by your unconditional love for us. Your love is indescribably wide and long and high and deep. 

Father, bless us with a greater sense of godly mourning that yields a spirit of deepening humility, an escalating dependency in Christ alone, a constant seeking of the Holy Spirit, and a discerning eye regarding sinful chases. May we have a quickly responsive, repentant heart that clings to Christ and desires to walk in his truth. 

May we always remain in this humble and dependent state of godly mourning which promises to yield supernatural comfort and an intensifying thankfulness for Christ’s redemptive work.

18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

The work of Christ is more powerful than any fleshly desire… able to demolish strongholds and set us free.
