Prayer 50: For Wisdom and Gentleness

Intercession: Life and Leadership, James, Matthew

Gracious Father, thank you that you called us to serve as ministers of the gospel. Thank you that your call is accompanied by your incredible power and wisdom. We, without hesitation, declare our absolute need and utter dependence upon you as sheep sent out among wolves.

Bless us liberally with wisdom to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves for Christ’s glory. Supernaturally guide us to avoid snares that are set before us while serving you blamelessly. Give us discernment to know the uniqueness of our audience, whether an individual or group. Guide our minds to wisely integrate your truth into complex issues and point those around us to the freedom found in Christ alone. Provide discerning caution when traps are set around us; may we carefully step around traps while unwaveringly pointing to Christ’s hope.

By clinging to Christ, bless us with the gentleness and approachability of a harmless dove. Give us a high sensitivity to your Spirit, leading us to know when our hearts are turned away from you and our loyalty leans on idols. Holy Spirit, when our attitude or actions are anything less than pure and holy, turn our attention back to you and empower us to say yes to you and no to sin. Bless us with humble hearts that are fully aware of our fleshly tendencies, yet fully assured and dependent on Christ’s transformational power. Fill us with your Spirit, overflowing with your marvelous fruit.

May we live empowered with wisdom and innocence as we live out the gospel in this world, particularly as we face adversaries, difficulties, and trials.

In Christ,

Blessings!

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Matthew 10:16
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Remaining in Him is to continue in a state of relationship and absolute trust in Christ... not only what he did to initially save you, but what he promises to do to sanctify you. (Pg. 12- Mistaken Identity)
